As summer approaches, Porta Kleen is gearing up for another demanding event season. After a whirlwind 2024 that included responding to hurricane-affected areas in the Carolinas as well as other natural disasters, the company is making strategic adjustments to ensure a seamless transition into this year’s high-demand months.
Each winter, Porta Kleen takes advantage of the slower season to perform critical maintenance and repairs on its equipment. However, last year’s hurricane response created an unusual challenge. Instead of returning to the company’s main service hubs for maintenance, much of the equipment was sent directly from the Carolinas to Yuma, Arizona, as a cost-effective measure. This meant teams had to get creative with their servicing strategy, coordinating with MPW and field staff to ensure equipment was event-ready despite the logistical hurdles.
“We ended up with a lot more equipment out west than we usually would have, so that posed a few challenges,” said Division Manager Doug Hall. “But we coordinated with MPW and our folks out west, so we’ve been able to accomplish what we needed to in the time we had.”
With major festivals like Coachella on the horizon, the focus now is on getting assets where they need to be, when they need to be there. Porta Kleen supports these large-scale events with everything from restroom trailers to mobile sleeping units, often repurposing Site Operations Group (SOG) equipment to meet demand. However, with SOG continuously busy responding to wildfires and other emergency situations this year, Porta Kleen must carefully balance available resources between its special operations and event divisions.
“We share a lot of the same resources between SOG and Site Services Group (SSG), including staff personnel and equipment,” Hall said. “Sometimes we use SOG equipment to house our own personnel, but we’d prefer to have it out in the field generating revenue.”
To stay ahead, Porta Kleen is investing in more proactive field service and maintenance. By expanding mobile repair capabilities—especially in the eastern U.S.—the company aims to minimize downtime and keep equipment ready year-round, rather than relying heavily on the winter months for overhauls.
“There are always cycles in this industry, and we know things can change quickly,” Hall noted. “But we’re prepared for another busy year, and we’re here if anyone needs us!”
With a strong team, reliable partnerships, and a focus on efficiency, Porta Kleen is well-positioned to meet the demands of the 2025 event season head-on.
